![]() The Waves of Aegir: an original water-puppet play |
The Waves of Aegir is an original water-puppet play, inspired by Norse mythology. Water puppetry is a distinctive form of puppetry, originating in Vietnam, in which puppeteers stand waist high in water behind a curtain and manipulate puppets with submerged bamboo poles.
Whimsical water puppets and dancer/actors illustrate this charming story adapted from Norse mythology. Vikings try to please Aegir, the god of the sea, by performing rituals. Aegir thwarts every attempt of the humans to appease him, until his nine daughters, the waves, intervene on behalf of the humans. Flattery, tricks, jokes and threats are all used to convince Aegir to grant the Vikings their petition to master the seas. The Waves of Aegir was part of 2004 Minneapolis MOSAIC. This activity is made possible, in part, by funds provided by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council through an appropriation by the Minnesota Legislature. |
